Using less, and especially getting more out of your raw materials. That is key for a circular economy. A good example is Avebe, investing heavily in innovation and creating market value for every part of the potato.

Het benutten van alle kansen die een circulaire economy biedt, gaat niet vanzelf. Daarvoor is kennis (cross-sectorale) samenwerking van doorslaggevend belang. Zo draagt het Dutch Biorefinery Cluster bij aan de lokale circulaire economie door het maximaal terugwinnen en (her)gebruiken van nutriënten, eiwitten, water, vezels etc. Eén van de succesvoorbeelden is het gebruik van agrarische reststromen als grondstof in de papierindustrie.

Circular economy is more than reuse and recycling! Resource efficiency includes the total valorisation of our valuable raw materials. A good example is Cosun Biobased Experts, using every part of the sugar beet. Their innovative solutions are a real step towards a circular economy and a sustainable future. Innoveren doe je samen. Dat is het credo van Avebe volgens Gerard ten Bolscher in zijn interview aan Change Inc. Het benutten van alle kansen die een biobased economy biedt, gaat namelijk niet vanzelf. Daarvoor zijn zaken als kennis, (cross-sectorale) samenwerking en vertegenwoordiging van doorslaggevend belang. Precies deze handschoen heeft het Dutch Biorefinery Cluster in 2010 opgepakt. Concreet ondersteunen we onze leden bij het delen van lessons learned, visies en technologieën. Hierdoor komen innovaties sneller tot stand.

Cellulose fibres are a fastest growing material within the textiles market. Also within packaging they are the most widely used material. Functionalisation opens even a wider range of packaging opportunities, when specific intrinsic barrier properties are created.
